In today’s passages we see a theme of God as Provider.
In Genesis 2 we see God’s gracious provisions for Adam. He puts him in the garden where He causes “every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food” to spring up. God provides a rich land watered by four rivers. God gives Adam dominion over every living animal. And lastly God, seeing that it is not good for Adam to be alone, provides a wife for Adam, created from his own rib.
In Matthew 2 we see God’s provision to protect His Son (until His time was complete.) God warns the wise men to take a different route and avoid Herod. God warns Joseph to flee to Egypt and then calls him back to Israel when it is once again safe. We also see God’s great provision of a Savior for mankind!
In Ezra 2 we see God’s provision as He has protected a remnant for Israel. God has perserved 42, 360 Israelites, plus their servnts.
In Acts 2, we see God’s wonderful provision of the Holy Spirit to draw His people to Himself and to be a Guide and Comforter for them! The Holy Spirit empowered the disciples to be witnesses for the Lord throughout the whole earth. In this chapter we also see God’s provision of Salvation for the Gentiles! God is callling for Himself children who are near and those who are far off!
In Matthew 2 we see the wondrous response of the Wise Kings as they find the baby Jesus – they rejoice “exceedingly with great joy” and fall “down to worship Him”. In Acts 2 we see the new believers response to God’s gift of Salvation – “devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers… they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God…”
